WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT LIMS

There’s no business like show business!

I graduated Friday, completing 12 weeks of super intense hands on training in Camera , grip and lighting. If the film industry is what you want and you are serious about working and getting paid to work in film and television, there is no better place than LIMS Movie Studio in Santa Clarita, CA.

My instructor Pierre Chemaly was bar none. Starting with safety he helped us all learn how to run power from both generator and studio. We fired up with generators, distribution boxes, lunchboxes, gang boxes and snack boxes. Single phase, three phase, banded and bates.

We then moved onto lights and learned how vitally important that lighting a set is. Not only are there thousands of lights that do different things, the way you place them and the way you diffuse, spot and flood them all play a critical role for setting the tone and the mood of your shot. We toured Mol Richardson, Dadco and Modern Studio Equipment, these are the places that have manufactured film studio lighting and equipment since the begging of film. We saw first hand how things were manufactured and how to use all the power, lights and equipment.

We visited the Margaret Herrick library in Beverly Hills to study and place our hands on actual script notes and shot list that were written by Alfred Hitchcock for his movie “Psycho” “The Birds” and more.

We mastered C-stands, flags, floppy’s, nets  and scrims. We built 12×12 bounces, 3 story scaffolding and raised them high above the set. We laid and leveled jibs and dolly track and practiced the art  of smooth pans, tracks and tilts. We took apart and built cameras, learning f-stops, focal lengths, color temps, balance, follow focus and more. We shot 5 shorts and a pilot that will now be edited for distribution.

Our class came together as a dozen strangers, agreed to surrender to long hours and intense concentration, sacrificing so much to gain so much more and now we venture out to use our knowledge …and Carpe Diem!

I wish my fellow classmates all the success and excitement they have ever dreamed of… let’s roll!
