WE GOT YOUR 6
The POST 9/11 program is a LIMS initiative spearheaded by LIMS President Jimmy Lifton, and is offered to veterans that have joined the military post-September 11, 2001. The focus of the program is to create stability for post-9/11 veterans by offering immersive training and job placement opportunities. By providing these opportunities, veterans are able to pursue and build a successful career in the Film and TV industry, becoming part of a powerful and supportive network that gives new purpose to their post-military lives.
LIMS aims to provide veterans with an opportunity to pursue a new career that they are passionate about. The program combines skill training, self-promotion guidance, and job placement to assist them in finding real success. Throughout the training period, they’ll build strong relationships, complete challenging deadlines with other veteran trainees, receive guidance on how to become a pro in their trade, and have discussions about conquering career goals.
A NEW BAND OF BROTHERS & SISTERS
The LIMS formula for success is placing veterans in a familiar team-building military environment, and utilizing their current skill sets that are easily transferrable into skills needed for film and TV productions. Discipline, strong work ethic, and an ability to forge a ‘family’ cohesiveness with teammates are traits that are invaluable for a successful entertainment production career.
During the LIMS program, veterans will get a chance to work hands-on to plan, coordinate and fully execute a feature film production. Veterans will choose a career path that they are passionate about and train in that department throughout the program. Upon completion, they will leave the program with the necessary skills and experience to walk onto a film or television set with confidence and the proven ability to fully complete their assigned tasks.
THIS IS YOUR NEXT DEFINING MOMENT
I went from homeless to Hollywood in 3 months because of LIMS. LIMS accomplished above and beyond what the Veteran’s Administration, Goodwill, and the Salvation Army’s social workers failed to do.
I should know, as a homeless Marine veteran, I received dysfunctional agency lip service since 2012.
I needed a push in the right direction and LIMS assisted myself with out of pocket lodging at a nearby campground.
Surviving on $200 a month in food stamps seems impossible, but LIMS assisted me when shelter agencies failed. The whole crew started working multiple positions for a Hollywood movie immediately after graduation to work near Sunset and Vine. Nobody but LIMS performed, promised, and delivered results to beat the odds.Art Flores
A little background on me… I am a Vet (USN-submarines) and have been in the industry for over 20-years, including TV, Animation and (now) live-action.
The school was a great experience for everyone. I was in Production Management and learned a lot – both prior to shooting and once we started on-set during our 20 day shoot. We even went out on location that presented its own interesting and fun challenges.
As for funding, my tuition was paid for through my local Unemployment Office – Inglewood WorkSource Center (presumably using some form of funds earmarked for Veterans). As for my ‘pay’ during the school, I was able to get my Unemployment Benefits extended as LIMS is a recognized school and training program by the State of California.
Upon completion of the film and the course, I know I feel confident in my ability to work on a set. As for the other disciplines (Camera/Grip/Electric, Sound Editing, Film Editing, Art Dept, etc.), I know for a fact that everyone learned quite a bit being hands on and rotating around on different jobs (within our chosen paths). I also know of other classmates who have already gotten jobs post-graduation in the real world.
I think if you are interested in LIMS, you owe it to yourself to go check it out.Larry Weisberg
LIMS was the opportunity I didn’t even know I was looking for.
When I was introduced to LIMS, I was creating online marketing material like videos. I had just finished a project for a client and thought it would be a good idea to get some training so that I may improve my skills under actual instruction. Little did I know that LIMS would be a place that would give me all I was looking for and so much more.
The training was full immersion into Media Production from day one. I honestly didn’t know what to expect but once I had arrived, I knew I was in for some quality instruction.
It wasn’t like any other kind of training I could compare to, other than Navy Boot Camp.
I was in a new place on a fast track to the real world. But in this case it wasn’t more Navy that I had to look forward to, it was the world of Entertainment Production.
Because of LIMS training, I am now working full-time as a Video Editor and Online Business Developer.
